Buy Charcoal Online West Sussex Made, UK Delivered
Black Dog Charcoal is made by us, right here in West Sussex, from wood harvested in the woodlands we manage across the South Downs. Every bag is produced without the chemical accelerants found in most supermarket charcoal and the result is a cleaner burn, a better flavour, and up to 75% fewer pollutants. Whether you're firing up the BBQ, loading a chiminea, or stocking up for the season, this is charcoal you can order directly from the people who make it.
West Sussex charcoal made the right way
Most charcoal sold in the UK is imported, often treated with chemical binders and accelerants that affect the quality of your burn. Ours is different. Black Dog charcoal is produced in West Sussex using traditional methods, from the same woodland we actively manage as part of our forestry work. Every purchase directly supports sustainable woodland management in the South of England.
We're a small, registered business (Black Dog Forestry Ltd, Company No. 11417999) based in Wiston, West Sussex. We know where every bag comes from, because we made it.

Black Dog Charcoal FAQs
Is your charcoal sustainably sourced?
Yes. Our charcoal is made from wood harvested in woodland we manage as part of Black Dog Forestry's sustainable woodland management work across the South Downs. Buying from us directly supports that work.
Is your charcoal chemical-free?
Yes, our charcoal contains no chemical binders, accelerants, or additives. That means a cleaner burn, no tainted flavour, and fewer pollutants than standard charcoal.
How long does your charcoal burn?
A well-lit load will hold a strong cooking temperature for 1.5–2.5 hours depending on conditions and airflow and stays warm for considerably longer - up to 12 hours with the right handling. If managed correctly, it can even still have some warmth left the following morning. For longer sessions, simply add more once the first load is established.
Is your charcoal suitable for chimineas and fire pits?
Absolutely. Our charcoal works well in chimineas and fire pits, either on its own or combined with firewood for a longer, more atmospheric burn.
